RNLD is searching for creative and hard working individuals to join our design team. We are a small studio of highly talented and competent lighting designers located in Solana Beach, CA. Collectively we design, manage and execute on a wide range of projects and rely on each other to produce our best work.
Internship
Award-winning lighting design studio, RNLD, is seeking an intern who’s passionate about lighting design! Architecture and interior design students or recent graduates are our ideal candidates. We offer paid 3-month and 6-month internships, exposure to all phases of a project, and the opportunity to directly engage with our project managers and design staff. RNLD collaborates with renowned architects and designers, and we work on a wide variety of project types and scales. Internship candidates must be committed, independent workers, and willing to learn.
Qualifications

Currently pursuing (or have completed) a Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Lighting Design, and Theater Design.

Interest in lighting design with an emphasis on architectural lighting design and daylighting.

Eager to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desired Skills

Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas.

Knowledge of the following software programs: AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Google Sketchup, Rhino, AGi32 and/or DIALux, Microsoft Office, Revit, and Google Slides.

Proficient in remote team working via online platforms that involve conference calls and work-sharing.
Tasks
-
Collaborate as well and learn from design team through various design stages.

Work within team to create lighting design presentations, including; visualizations, renderings and lighting look & feel image boards.

Catalog light fixture specifications into the studio database.

Utilize various software to assist in creating lighting documentation such as lighting layouts and sketches.

Perform lighting calculations to inform project decisions and validate concepts.

Other duties may include assisting design teams at meetings in the studio, on-mock-ups, on-site lighting focusing and scene-setting.

Non-lighting design related tasks such as assisting with office administration.

Bi-weekly stipend provided – amount to be discussed during interview/offer letter.

Jr. Lighting Designer
RNLD is seeking a Junior Lighting Designer to become an integral part of our studio; working on all phases of project delivery on wide range of project types.
A successful Junior Lighting Designer at RNLD will skillfully manage all aspects of project design and delivery. This includes: design, CAD, presentation boards, organization of specifications/cut sheets, photometric calculations, project management, construction administration, and coordination with RNLD team members and our clients. The Junior Lighting Designer role is for a professional with 3-5 years of lighting design experience. This person will be the main support to one or more of our senior designers.
